Cooperative Awareness for Youth

One of the major problem of startups and businesses in Nigeria is source of Capital.
I well known and non-financial section that had being playing a great role in solving this problem is the cooperative, operating in the grassroot to solve social economic problem of it members.
According to International Cooperative Alliance, Cooperatives are people-centred enterprises owned, controlled and run by and for their members to realise their common economic, social, and cultural needs and aspirations.

Cooperatives bring people together in a democratic and equal way. Whether the members are the customers, employees, users or residents, cooperatives are democratically managed by the ‘one member, one vote’ rule. Members share equal voting rights regardless of the amount of capital they put into the enterprise.

Despite its uniqueness, lots of youths are still not aware about its distinct advantage over other business model.
Without quoting figure or any fact, Youth has the highest percentage of age bracket in Nigeria population, forming the background and the driving engine room of the economy and working class.
Being young is a stage of life where anything is possible and much can be achieved. As a result of this, youth is a period of instability, change, uncertainty, and a constant search for purpose. The interests of young people is vastly different from those of older people. Young people want to change the world and establish their own innovative values. They can only change society for better if they have the support of others like government Non Government organisation, institutions and organization.

Challenges facing the youth range from Unemployment, housing, source of business capital, low level of education, cultism etc. Solution to all this problems can be proffers and that’s one of the reason *Ola Cooperative Foundation* is here to create and raise awareness about Cooperative and the power of cooperation that can help youth harness the little resource as their disposal to achieve a common goal.

Are you aware how Youth Development Association in South West, Nigeria create synergy and harness such towards celebrating a Festive Carnival that doesn’t add any value to there growth & development except merriment. Imagine the money used in getting Musician or DJ for such event. Imagine a customize shirt each individual youth put on for such event. Just think about, it if such money is channel towards forming a cooperative society that will have a direct bearing toward there development.

Ola Cooperative Foundation (OCF) is here to change such orientation and get the youth focus on how to use the *Cooperative Business Model* to solve many youth challenges.
